Earlier, you were not able to enjoy Hulu on your Linux distributions as you enjoy the Netflix one but now it has become possible with the little tweak. You need to follow the simple guide mentioned in this post and start enjoying Hulu.com activate service on your device.
Hulu had offered a Linux based desktop app earlier which was discontinued after some time. Hulu was supposed to rely on Adobe flash players and Adobe Flash DRM’s for streaming purposes.
You need to use Firefox
We are very well aware of the fact that Hulu worked with Adobe Flash DRM that fetches the code from the Linux library but this system is totally outdated now and is not coming with the latest Linux system from years. If you want to activate Hulu account on your device, then you need a compatible package that allows HAL-based DRM.
You need to download the Mozilla Firefox to enjoy Hulu. The old HAL was compatible only with the older version of Firefox. If you have downloaded chrome browser in your system, then it will not support PPAPI on it.
Step 1: Install flash on Firefox
This is the first and the foremost step to enjoy Hulu plus on your device. Download the Flash player plug-in in your Firefox. You will get the message for the same even on your screen when you try to watch contents through it.
You can normally install the flash player from Linux software repositories. If you are using Ubuntu, then you need to go to official Ubuntu software center and search for flash player on it. Install it after downloading the same.
It is important to mention here that you will have to download Flash player plugin for ‘Mozilla’ or Firefox only. If you have downloaded the PPAPI plugin, then it will work for Hulu activate on Chrome browsers only.
Step2: Install the HAL Library
After installing the Adobe player plugin in the Firefox, you need to open the Hulu.com sign in website from your device and try playing without after entering Hulu activation code in it. You may get an error at this point of time which says, ‘There’s a problem with the protected contents’. In such cases, you need to delete cookies, cache and license files from your HAL package.
You will now be directed to the Adobe page, from where you will be prompted to install the ‘HAL’ package. Here, you will not find any such page if you are installing on modern Ubuntu. One of the Project executives from Ubuntu has provided a PPA file for playing back the protected contents on Flash player without installing the whole HAL layer.
Installing a software requires PPA addition to the Ubuntu system. The same will work for Linux Mint and other Ubuntu derived distributions. Open the dashboard and start pasting the commands as per the order and press ‘Enter’ after each command. The first command is meant for PPA, second for downloading the packages and third for installing the HAL library.
If you are using any other Linux distribution other than Ubuntu, then you need to install the whole package of HAL available on Flash player link. Go to Hulu manage devices for managing the devices for Hulu playback. It can be a part of your distribution repositories even.
Once you have installed the package on your Ubuntu system, go to Hulu com slash activation link and try playing Hulu videos through it. You will now be able to watch protected contents seamlessly.
If you are still getting any problem or error message, then simply close the Firefox browser and restart it. If the problem still exists, then restart your computer completely.
